As featured in the Sunday Independent, Drogheda Independent and Mid-Louth Independent...

While Christmas 2020 is set to be very different from what we’re all accustomed to, the Boyne Valley is preparing to bring as much traditional Christmas cheer as possible during these unprecedented times.

The Christmas lights will be shining at Loughcrew Estate which will be illuminating its gardens from the 1st December to 6th January. The ‘Lightscape’ will feature illuminating gardens after dark and imaginative installations. The Loughcrew Lightscape extravaganza will absolutely be adhering to Covid-19 protocols with Covid bubbles, staggered entry and handling its drink-making procedures appropriately. Luckily, getting dressed up, wandering through a wonderland and having a glass of champagne can be made safe!! Visit

“Can you stop the Cavalry?” is often sung at Christmas and this year Santa Claus himself will be stopping his Christmas train at the Irish Military War Museum and Family Fun Park from the 15th – 22nd December. Visitors will be able to wander through the indoor ice tunnel and pick up some treats before making their way out to the Christmas village where the elves will be working away getting ready to stock Santa’s sleigh. Then meet the man himself – Santa - in his specially adapted Train Station grotto. Due to Covid-19 ‘family pods’ of between four and six people will be created for the event to run safely and efficiently with reduced numbers. You must have a family of 4 ticket to enter the event (2 adults 2 children, or 3 adults and one child). €60 + booking fee. Visit or call the museum on 041-9819501.

Forget baking banana bread for a moment. Instead why not join Santa and Mrs Claus at Causey Farm for an interactive baking session? Mrs Claus will share her recipe for Santa’s favourite cookies while everyone can make them at home along with her. Once you book, you will get a festive shopping list outlining the ingredients you’ll need. Then all you have to do is set up your iPad or Laptop in the kitchen and Mrs. Claus will guide you and your children through this easy to follow recipe for some great Christmas fun for the whole family. Each video will be personalised based on the information which you will provide when booking. The last date for booking is December 16th and all videos will be delivered within two weeks of booking.
