Boyne Greenway

Running from Dominic's Park on the south bank of the River Boyne near the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda, the Boyne Greenway  takes you along the river close to the Mary McAleese Cable Bridge and then along the Boyne Canal to the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre at Oldbridge. This is approximately 4.5km long and presents some lovely views as you walk along the waterside. 

The walking and cycling facility utilises sections of boardwalk to create a riverside resource connecting Drogheda’s town centre to the Oldbridge Estate, via the existing ramparts.  Along the boardwalk are a number of heritage signs with information about Irish Mythology relevant to the Boyne Valley.  There are also a number of self guiding walks to be enjoyed through parkland at the Battle of the Boyne site, Oldbridge Estate. 

There are further plans to extend the Boyne Greenway as part of the "Boyne Greenway and Navigation Restoration" project. An additional section of pathway is proposed which would extend from the Councillor Andy Brennan Park in Navan to the main gates at the Oldbridge Estate. This pathway would therefore be routed adjacent to some of Ireland’s most significant visitor attractions including the Battle of Boyne site and the UNESCO World Heritage site at Brú na Bóinne. Exciting times ahead for the Boyne Greenway!
