An article showcasing the Royal County and Ireland’s Ancient East appeared in a recent edition of the New Zealand Herald (daily newspaper), profiling the destination to more than 450,000 readers – or potential New Zealand holidaymakers for Ireland.
Tourism Ireland in New Zealand invited journalist Brendan Manning, from the New Zealand Herald, to visit in June. The resulting article appeared under the headline “Ireland: Battle returns to the green fields” – in both the print and online versions of the newspaper. The author described the “exhaustive number of historical sites that pepper the Irish countryside”. He wrote about Newgrange “older than Stonehenge and the pyramids”, the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre at Oldbridge House, Slane Castle which lends “the natural amphitheatre on its grounds to host the annual Slane Concert” and Slane Food Circle.

2014 was a record year for visitor numbers from Ireland’s long-haul markets. And indications for 2015 are very positive, with the most recent CSO figures indicating that it was the best ever January to August period for visitors from Australia, New Zealand and developing markets, with an increase of +9% over the same eight-month period in 2014. Tourism Ireland is determined to ensure that growth continues and the organisation’s busy autumn campaign is now in full swing.
