From Lakeside strolls to county highpoints, there is something for every level of fitness. Why not take in a guided walk or go on a self-guided adventure this Summer and Autumn.
Learn all about the historical and mythological significance of the area and have some fun too.
Here are our top guided and self-guided walks in the Boyne Valley.
DRAWDA
Drogheda Urban Art Trail features six murals that focus on key figures and moments from mythology, with an Audio Trail! Pick up your printed map from Droichead Arts Centre, Love Drogheda BIDS or local business’ or view it digitally online. Then, take a stroll throughout Drogheda following the trail, and use your smart device to scan the code and listen to the mythological stories behind the murals! You can also take a guided tour of the murals every Saturday from Stockwell Street in the town. Find out more here.
Trim Walking Tours
Cynthia Simonet is a well-known local tour guide of Trim who now runs daily tours (must be booked in advance) of the town and its nearby heritage sites. Take the Medieval Mile tour to explore the history of medieval Trim or discover The Holy grail of Knights and Monks tour as it explores Trim through the medieval Porch Fields to the beautiful Newtown ruins. Sceál Trail at Blackwater Park
If you are looking for some fun with the kids, the take them to Blackwater Park in Navan for a walk around the Sceál trail.
The story of ‘Socks for Mr Wolf’ starts at the playground and you should follow the path to read the whole story.
Each board features questions about the story and movement tips to do on the way to the next page.
The questions help to build literacy skills and the movement tips are a fun way to get you and your children moving!

Boyne Valley Camino
The Boyne Valley Camino is a 25km walking route that brings you past some of our amazing heritage sites in the region.
The walk starts in Drogheda, goes along the Boyne, through beautiful Townley Hall woods, via two OPW sites of Mellifont Abbey and Oldbridge House, through the village of Tullyallen, along the Boyne Canal, and returns to Drogheda along the stunning Boyneside Trail.

Discover 13 points of historical interest on the Athboy Heritage trail including the market house and the fair green.
This short trail brings you back in time to appreciate the significance of the Yellow Ford.

Made famous by the monastic school of St Finian in the 6th century, Clonard is a small village with a big history.

If you are visiting Drogheda for the first time and want to get your bearings, then take the historical trail around the town.

Kells Historic Trail
One of the most important heritage towns in our region, Kells has a lot of offer in terms of existing historical sites.
The trail of the town features 10 stops including Kells Courthouse and Tourism Hub, St Colmcilles House, Kells Town Hall and more.

Navan Points of Pride
This bustling town offers a lot more than great shopping, bars and restaurants. Navan has a rich historical past.
The Navan Points of Pride town walk starts at the Solstice Arts Centre and is 4km long.
You will discover 15 points of interest along the way including The Ramparts walk, the old courthouse, Athlumney castle and so much more.

Slane Historic Trail
Home to the majestic Slane Castle, and the Conyngham family, this small town is bursting with charm, beauty and timelessness.
The historical trail features 17 stops. It is 2.2km long and will take approximately 45-60 minutes.

Trim Historic Trail
Trim is a history buffs paradise with so many beautiful sites to explore.
Weaving around the streets of the medieval town you will see the old town gates, the remains of the old leper hospital, the Tomb of the Jealous Man and Woman.
One of the more curious stops along the way will be Echo Gate where you can enjoy the crystal-clear echo of whatever you shout.

National Famine Way
The National Famine Way is a 165km trail that traces the footsteps of the Strokestown tenants, men, women and children who were marched from Roscommon to Dublin in 1847 after they failed to pay their rent.
22km of the National Famine way passes through Co Meath. From the Hill of Down to Enfield.
