1. Wilkinstown
Just off the greenway, Park Beo Greenway Hub in Wilkinstown provides everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. With 3.5 acres of outdoor space, ample parking, accessible facilities, picnic areas, and a coffee trailer, it’s the perfect base for exploring the greenway.
The Greenway Services Hub features bike hire, a service station, and parking. At the Wilkinstown Community Centre, you’ll also find a playground.
2. Nobber
Steeped in history, Nobber traces its origins back to Mesolithic Ireland, around 6,000 BCE. The village name, derived from the Irish “An Obair” (“the work”), references the Norman motte at the north end of the village. Nobber is an ideal stop to explore local history and enjoy refreshments.
The Greenways Café, located just off the greenway, is the perfect spot to relax with breakfast, lunch, or tasty treats made with artisan produce. For a scenic diversion, take the Slí na hOibre looped walking trail, a 1.5km route that begins near the red Forge building on the northern side of the village. The path offers a peaceful escape and a chance to appreciate the beauty of the area.
3. Kilmainhamwood
Nestled in north Meath, Kilmainhamwood is a picturesque village with a fascinating history tied to the Knights Hospitaller. While the original medieval church no longer stands, the site remains a historic graveyard with medieval features. Nearby, the tranquil Whitewood Lake is a must-see.
A highlight of Kilmainhamwood is the GNR Café, which has quickly become a favourite since opening in May 2024. Stop by for a variety of teas, coffees, and refreshing summer juices like cloudy lemonade and blood orange. Pair your drink with a delicious homemade cake or savoury toastie, all served in a serene countryside setting. It’s the perfect break during your greenway journey.
4. Kilberry
Kilberry is a small but historically rich village located just a short distance from Navan. The medieval church ruins and graveyard feature ornate grave slabs and a medieval font, while a nearby ringfort offers glimpses into the area’s ancient past.
For a delightful meal, visit The Kilberry Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Known for its Irish cuisine with a global twist, the restaurant also boasts an impressive cocktail and wine selection. It’s the perfect place to recharge before or after your greenway adventure.
