Ras Tailteann, Ireland's premier cycling event, is back in 2024, promising an exhilarating showcase of athleticism, determination, and the scenic beauty of the Emerald Isle. As cyclists from across the globe gear up to tackle this iconic race, anticipation is building for what promises to be a thrilling edition of one of the world's oldest and most prestigious cycling competitions. We are delighted here in the Boyne Valley to bethe finishing point for the race on the 26th of May when cyclists will complete a spectator friendly route in Bective.

A Rich History of Cycling Excellence

Ras Tailteann 2024 History

First held in 1953, Ras Tailteann has a storied history that spans over seven decades, firmly establishing itself as a cornerstone of Irish cycling culture. Named after the ancient Irish festival of Tailteann (which took place close by in Kells), which celebrated sport and community, the race embodies the spirit of camaraderie and competition that has characterised Irish sporting traditions for centuries.

Over the years, Ras Tailteann has attracted some of the most talented cyclists from Ireland and beyond, providing a platform for emerging stars to showcase their skills on the international stage. From gruelling mountain climbs to nail-biting sprint finishes, each edition of the race is a testament to the physical and mental prowess of the riders who tackle its challenging course.

The Route: A Test of Endurance and Skill

Ras Tailteann 2024

One of the highlights of Ras Tailteann is its diverse and demanding route, which winds its way through some of Ireland's most stunning landscapes, from rugged coastlines to rolling green hills. Spanning over a thousand kilometres and encompassing multiple stages, the race offers a true test of endurance, with riders facing a variety of terrains and weather conditions along the way. In 2023, the race began right here in the Boyne Valley in Navan.

The 2024 edition of Ras Tailteann promises to be no exception, with a route that showcases the beauty and diversity of the Irish countryside. From the dramatic cliffs of the Wild Atlantic Way to the tranquil beauty of the Wicklow Mountains, cyclists will traverse a landscape steeped in history and natural splendor, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Ireland's past.

This year, the event will kick off from Tullamore, County Offaly in Ireland’s Midlands, where the first stage finish will be in Kilmallock. This will be the first-ever Rás Tailteann stage to finish in the County Limerick town. The 2024 edition will also have finishes in Sneem, County Kerry on the famous ‘Ring of Kerry’, Cahir, County Tipperary which will see the first finish there since 1967 and Kildare Town, County Kildare with the fifth and final stage of the 2024 Rás Tailteann finishing in Bective, County Meath, in the Boyne Valley, where the race will take in three laps of a 14.1KM spectator-friendly finishing circuit. Bective Stud, Apartments and Tea Rooms are proud sponsors of this years Rás Tailteann as well as members of Boyne Valley Tourism.
