Start your Journey in Navan

Starting your journey in Navan, you're stepping into one of the most historic regions in Ireland. This area is renowned for its rich tapestry of history, from ancient Neolithic sites like Newgrange, Knowth, and Dowth to the medieval remains of Trim Castle and the Hill of Tara. As autumn casts its spell, these sites take on a mystical aura, surrounded by misty mornings and glowing sunsets. Spend the night at the Newgrange Hotel, or the Ardboyne Hotel (see some great packages here) in the town and then make your way to Blackwater park to start you walk or cycle of the Greenway. Navan to your first stop at Gibbs town is 3.7km’s.

Your first stop- Gibbstown

Take a rest at Gibbstown Station. If you are feeling hungry, make the short detour to The Kilberry Bar and Kitchen in Kilberry for some amazing food and drinks! If it’s a nice day, enjoy their outdoor seating area. Find out more about the Kilberry here.

On to Wilkinstown

One of the highlights of the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway is Park Beo Greenway Services Hub at Wilkinstown. Here you can grab a coffee, a great lunch, sample their famous acai bowls, and more. There is sheltered seating areas as well as picnic benches, toilets and bike pumps etc. Here you will find the Feel Good Bikes base for the Greenway. George and his team provide bike rental, repair and sales in their new shop! Your next stop is Castletown, 4.5km from Wilkinstown.

Take a break at Castletown

In Castletown, you will find a beautiful looped walk into Castletown village. Here you can partake in a game of pitch and putt or pick up some refreshments in the local shop. Your next stop is Nobber, 4.3km’s away.

Relax in Nobber

Take another break in Nobber and discover the Greenways Café in the town. This is the perfect spot for lunch or a coffee and a treat! Down the road you will find Nobber heritage centre. Keep an eye on their social media pages for open days. Your next stop brings you to Kilmainham wood station- 4.4km away.

Discover Kilmainhamwood

As you approach Kilmainhamwood station, you will notice the well-preserved station masters house and stores. GNR Coffee will sort out your coffee fix here. They provide picnic tables as well as a great assortment of cakes and treats. The final push brings you to Kingscourt in Co Cavan. 7km’s away.

On to Kingscourt

A nice cycle or walk will bring you into Kingscourt, Co Cavan. The trail finishes here but you can take the short cycle out the R179 to bring you to Dún an Rí Forest park. Retrace your steps back to Navan or explore a bit of the Lakelands County!
