Culture Night in the Boyne Valley

Culture Night, celebrated annually on the third Friday in September, invites locals and visitors alike to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Boyne Valley. From Drogheda to Trim and from Newgrange to Slane, the entire region bursts into life with a myriad of events that showcase its unique history, art, music, and traditions. Here are some great events to look forward to this Culture night, 20th of September, in the Boyne Valley.

Athboy Culture Night 2024 – Open Mic Evening

An all-inclusive Open Mic evening of Poetry, Storytelling, Dance and Song. This event will be jointly hosted by Athboy Writers' Forum, ÁIT (Athboy Inclusion Team) and Special Hand Activity Group. Taking place in St. James Hall, Main Street, Athboy, from 7pm to 9pm.

Hinterland Festival Presents, Eoin Ryan – Trawled, When Adventure Becomes Survival

A true story you will never forget sees Eoin Ryan bring his one man show to Kells. This raw, exuberant true story of adventure, set on the Coral Sea in Australia, twists dramatically into survival, culminating in an unforgettable moment of redemptive grace.

Ready to come onboard?? Taking place at Kells Theatre from 8pm to 10pm.

Music Night with “Out on Bale” at the Royal Meath Bar

Enjoy a night of traditional Irish Music in the Royal Meath bar from 9pm. Celebrate culture night in style and listen to our native Irish music come alive.

Oíche Chultúir at Swift Cultural Centre

Coiste Cultúrtha an Mhí proudly presents Oíche Chultúir, a celebration of Irish culture, music, drama and dance showcasing the rich talents of members of Meath G.A.A. clubs.

Performances on the night from singer Matthew Gilsenan, Trim Comhaltas, Clann na nGael ballad group and many more. Bígí linn! Taking place at the Swift Cultural centre from 7.30pm.

Make an Irish Woodland Lantern- Anita Reynolds Art and Design

Make an Irish Woodland lantern in clay using hand building techniques. Imprint the patterns of leaves freshly picked in Anita’s garden into the clay. Press the name of your tree in Irish onto your lantern using Gaelic printers’ type once used by the artists father in his printing business. Cut out leaf shapes to finish your candle holder. All pieces will be fired and glazed by Anita afterwards. Taking place at Anita’s studio in Shanco from 7pm to 9pm.

Life in the Village of Moynalty- Early 1900’s

Moynalty

Drama in the Museum Country Kitchen, early 1900s with music, literature and visual art from that period. Special focus on Threshing. Taking place at Moynalty Steam Threshing museum from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Boyne Trad Fest

Boyne TradFest takes place from 20th - 22nd September 2024, with Drogheda bursting at the seams with traditional Irish music. The official launch takes place on Friday 20th September at 5pm. Join Mayor of Drogheda Paddy McQuillan & event organiser Gormlaith Maynes in cutting the ribbon on what promises to be a fantastic weekend of music.

Music performances by Patricia Clark on fiddle, Séamus Ong on uilleann pipes & Rachael Dooley on harp, joined also by traditional singers. This event is followed by a recital with Martha Guiney & Ruairí Cunnane in the Highlanes Gallery from 6:30pm, and traditional Irish music session in McHugh’s from 7:30pm. Open House at Townley Hall

Come and enjoy a House Tour of Townley Hall this Culture night, walk through many grand rooms and marvel at the elegant staircase in the Rotunda, hear many interesting facts about the building of Townley Hall and its connections to the surrounding area. See more about Francis Johnston, the architect in a wonderful exhibition about his works which include the GPO on O’Connell Street. Attend a talk on Practical Philosophy in Action!         Tea, Coffee and Biscuits served in the restored Dining Hall. From 4-7pm in Townley Hall.
