Spring is in the air here in the Boyne Valley and the anticipation of more great entertainment across the region. Our members are planning concerts, St Patrick's Day activities, farm visits and so much more. As the evenings are getting longer, we are looking forward to spending more time outdoors exploring our heritage sites and beautiful walking trails. Make sure to take in an event on your visit too. Here are our top picks for March:
The Cottage Market Drogheda
The Cottage Market's first event for 2023 is happening on the 4th of March in the Scotch Hall Shopping centre in Drogheda. On the day they will be celebrating their 7th birthday with music and entertainment. Discover lots of local food and crafts from 10am to 5pm.
Drogheda Classical Music Concert
On the 24th of March, pianist of note, Daniel Lebhardt makes his Irish solo debut in a recital of works by Brahms, Ethel Smyth, Beethoven and Mendelssohn at St Peters Church of Ireland. Lebhardt was the winner of the Young Concert Artists International auditions in Paris and New York in 2014. Tickets are available from their website now.
This March, the Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells will host three music events. Mike Denver on the 10th of March, The Joe Dolan Show on the 19th of March and One for the Road on the 25th of March. Tickets are available for all three of these wonderful events on their website now.
Droichead are delighted to announce the return of their Slow Sessions with Brendan McCreanor Live in the venue! Capacity is limited so early booking is advised. These sessions are for players of any instrument and at any level. A selection of easy and well-known session tunes will be played slowly so that people in the early stages of their playing, or those coming back to playing music, have the opportunity to play together in a friendly, supportive and informal context.
Droichead Arts Centre will also be holding a screening of An Cailín Ciúin on the 2nd of March and Roman Holiday on the 14th of March.
Check out the City North Hotel website to find some great value overnight packages for all of their events. On Saturday 11th March they have Dan McCabe with special guest Sina Theil. On Sunday 19th March – Mother’s Day, the hotel will host- Show & Lunch Matinée with The Jersey Boys - "The best of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons" with special guests The Bootleg Beach Boys.
Look forward to not one, but three race days at Navan Racecourse this March. A jumps fixture is being held on Saturday the 4th of March, a Cheltenham Preview Day on the 11th of March and a flat fixture on the 29th of March.

Lambing live at Newgrange Farm
From the 17th to the 31st of March, you can visit Newgrange Farm to see their flock of sheep lambing. Spring is the best time on any farm as it is the time for regrowth and baby animals! Please remember that this is a natural process and sheep will lamb in their own time – not on demand, however with a flock of 500 they would hope that you do get to see it all taking place!
Charity Raft Race at Boyne Valley Activities
Boyne Valley Activities are holding a Charity Raft Race on St Patricks Day- Friday March 17th in aid of Meath River Rescue. There will be prizes for the winning raft, the Titanic award for the first raft to sink and a prize for the best dressed raft. The race will start above the rapids at Swifts Wave at 1.30pm and will finish after Trim Castle.
Abbaesque at the Ardboyne Hotel
Sing along to all the great songs from Abba this Mothers Day in the Ardboyne Hotel. Abbaesque will take to the stage on the 19th of March from 2.30pm. Why not include lunch in your ticket to make the day that extra special.
Wilde Dining at Loughcrew Estate
Wilde Dining returns to Loughcrew Estate on the 24th of March. You will be greeted with a champagne reception before being escorted to the dining area where the Wilde Dining chef and team will be preparing a feast over fire with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Places are limited.
Spring Sensation at Knightsbrook Hotel
Treat yourself to a Spring Sensation experience at Knightsbrook Hotel on the 25th of March. Begin on arrival with a fresh Kells Gin Cocktail, followed by a 5 course Seasonal Dining Experience, from local Boyne Valley Producers. Spring Equinox 2023 Events at Loughcrew Megalithic Centre
18-20 March
Here at Loughcrew, just outside Oldcastle in Co. Meath, we have celebrated the Spring & Autumn Equinox for many years. The famous Cairn T, which sits on top of the highest point in the county, has an incredible alignment with the equinox sunrise, dating back thousands of years.
Loughcrew Megalithic Centre will be running some events here at the centre over the 18th & 19th March which are outlined here.
