Visit our heritage sites
Sunset at the hill of Tara
The Boyne Valley is well known as the birthplace of Ireland’s Ancient East. You can’t go far without coming across one of our historic heritage sites- and many of them are free to visit. Explore the mythical landscape of the Hill of Tara, walk to the Hill of Slane, discover interrupted staircases in Bective Abbey, view Irelands tallest highcross at Monasterboice and so much more. Experience sunrise at Loughcrew
Loughcrew Cairns
One of our heritage sites that is a must see at Sunrise is Loughcrew Cairns. Loughcrew is a concentration of around 30 passage tombs and is one of the most important prehistoric cemeteries in Ireland. DRAWDA is an Urban Art Trail throughout Drogheda that focuses on key figures and moments from our mythological past. The six murals take you on a trip back in time. Have a picnic at Oldbridge House
Picnic at Oldbridge House
There is nowhere better to be on a good day than the front lawn of Oldbridge House (the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre). Your view is looking back down towards the Boyne with the Mary McAleese Bridge in the background. Take a stroll through the walled garden afterwards and even pick up a nice coffee at Brambles Café


Discover the Trim Porchfield and River Walk

This beautiful riverside walk highlights all of the special landmarks in Trim. From St Mary’s Abbey (the yellow steeple), past Trim Castle, through the sheep gate and beyond. Enjoy a game of baseball
Baseball players
Ashbourne Baseball club hold regular matches and tournaments at the International Baseball centre in the town. Entry to the games is free of charge. Spend the afternoon cheering on the teams. Find out more here.


Visit Highlanes Gallery 
Highlanes Gallery exterior
Highlanes Municipal Art Gallery is one of Ireland's most important visual art spaces and admission is free all year round. The gallery houses the town's most treasured heirlooms: a ceremonial sword and mace presented to Drogheda Corporation by King William III after the Battle of the Boyne.
