Get ready for a weekend of events and festivities in the Boyne Valley with its newest festival Féile Siamsa Glas, taking place on the weekend of 14th and 15th September.

A packed programme of events is in store, celebrating the Boyne Valley’s recently launched Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway, combined with an opportunity to experience the Irish language and culture of Meath’s Gaeltacht Baile Ghib.

Events will take place in Baile Ghib, Wilkinstown, Nobber, Castletown and Kilmainham wood over the weekend, a great way to immerse yourself in the Irish Language, and visit our stunning Greenway.

Here are our top events to look forward to!

Tóraíocht Taisce (Treasure Hunt)

GNR Café

Happening on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm in Kilmainhamwood.

A treasure hunt map in Irish can be collected from GNR Coffee Box at any time over the two days.

This will be a family friendly activity with opportunities to draw and identify plants, trees and railway info on the walk to Whitewood Lake.

All fully completed forms in Irish with drawings will get a free ice-cream from GNR and be entered into a competition for best drawings and answers.

The winner will be announced later and the prize will be a Fáilte birdhouse by Anita Reynolds Artist. 

 

Bia agus comhrá  - (Food & Chat in Nobber)

 

Greenways Cafe

Enjoy food and a chat all weekend at the Greenways Café in Nobber. A menu has been created as Gaeilge and a traditional Irish dish will be added to the menu for the weekend.

The waitresses may also have a cúpla focal to share with us!

Maidin Spóirt is Spraoi do pháistí bun scoile - (Sports Morning for Children in Primary School)

On Saturday, let the kids run wild at a sports morning at Páirc Bhaile Ghib, Gibbstown for children in primary school. 

This runs from 10am to 12pm and no booking is needed.

 

Focal Ón gCroí – (Family Pottery Workshops)

Anita Reynolds Art

Artist Anita Reynolds will work with a group of 12 adults and children accompanied by adults to make clay hearts imprinted with Irish words all weekend.

Folcadh Fuaime Ceilteach (Celtic Sound Bath)

Sound Bath - Fiona

Enjoy a gentle, relaxing yet uplifting meditative sound bath by Irish Sound Music Artist Fiona Guiheen on Saturday from 11am to 12.30pm at Wilkinstown Community Centre. A beautiful holistic experience accompanied by soothing sounds and songs with a Celtic influence. Fiona hails from Meath and has a strong connection with her ancestral Gaelic heritage which extends from Na Blascaodaί to Baile Ghib.

Immersive Theatre Experience - The Journey

The Journey

“The Journey “is Written and Directed by local lady Sharon Carroll and presented by local drama group Yellow River Drama Group. Sharon has recently graduated from Maynooth University where she studied Directing for Theatre.

This piece was written especially for the Siamsa Glas festival and depicts fictionally the events in 1949 when the train left the platform in Wilkinstown bound for the All-Ireland Senior Football Final Meath v Cavan in Croke Park.

The drama is site specific and will take place on the platform in Wilkinstown village on Saturday and Sunday from 1.30pm to 2pm. A family friendly event!!

 

Bodhrán Biking Trip – Feel Good Bicycles

George Allen - Feel Good Bikes

Join Feel Good bikes on the 14th of September from 2-5pm. Meet at Park Beo Wilkinstown and cycle to a bodhrán class to learn some bodhrán skills though Irish.

The event will encourage inclusivity through having the option to meet at the class location if the participant is unable to cycle. We also hope to have disability bikes available.

Enjoy the Céilí for teenagers and adults. No experience is required. Craic, music and exercise!! A great night guaranteed.

Rothaíocht trí Gaeilge – (Cycling through Irish)

Start at Park Beo Greenway Hub at 12pm on Sunday and enjoy an easy-going 10km casual social cycle as Gaeilge open to all fitness levels.

Cycle 5km from Páirc Bheo via Greenway (Glas Bhealach) as far as Stáisiún Bhaile Ghib and back while learning cúpla focal or chatting (ag comhrá) as Gaeilge.

Picnic Teidí (Teddy Bear Picnic)

On Sunday from 2pm to 3pm, there will be fun for little ones and their ‘beary’ best friends at Park Beo!

Get together with your family, friends, your favourite ‘teidί’ and a blanket/rug for a perfect Sunday afternoon picnic on the grass (ar an bhféar).

Complimentary picnic refreshments provided and Doughtys’ Deli and Coffee Dock will be open.

Áit Spraoi (Fun Place)

Park Beo will be a relaxed place full of fun for toddlers to teens from 2-5pm on Sunday.

Activities include an outdoor sandpit, Ogham art, leaf rubbings, Lego Fun and face-painting.

No need to book, simply turn up and join the fun!

 

Ceol Beo (Live Music) / Seisiún Ceoil Gaeilge (Irish Music Session)

While the kids are enjoying themsleves, the adults, teenagers, families, music lovers, culture seekers, overseas visitors can relax with an afternoon of live music including Irish folk songs, ballads and the enthralling magic of Irish instruments.

To finish off this amazing weekend, there will be a cultural concert in Nobber Heritage Centre.

A fantastic way to conclude a weekend of Gaeilge and fun on the Greenway! Further information can be found through Facebook.
