When planning a trip to the Boyne Valley, adding the heritage town of Trim to your plans is a must. This pretty destination is filled with great things to do from walking, tours, amazing places to eat and so much more. We recommend spending at least two nights here and more if you have the time. Here are all the great things we think you should add to your Trim Bucket list this Summer and Autumn.


Blackfriary Community Heritage Archaeological Project

If you are looking for somewhere unique to visit on your trip to Trim, The Blackfriary Project should definitely be on your bucket list. The Project offers free tours every Wednesday for August from 2.30 to 4.30pm. Learn about all the amazing finds that have been uncovered since the school began digging here and so much more. The Boyne Blueway Trim
Boyne Blueway
Located in and flowing through the picturesque heritage town of Trim, the Boyne Blueway Trim is a beautiful stretch of the River Boyne which flows from Trim to Bective Mill. With a length of 8kms it can be paddled in 2.5 to 3 hours and is suitable for dabblers and those with a little bit more paddling ability. Find out more about it here. Trim Medieval Armoury
Trim Medieval Armoury
Situated in Trim Visitor Centre in the town, Trim Medieval Armoury is a great place to learn all about ancient warfare and get up close to some of the dress that ancient archers and knights would have worn. Find out more about it on our website here.

Trim Porchfield and River Walk
Yellow Steeple and Sheepgate
No visit to Trim is complete without a walk along the River Boyne and through the Porchfields. Interpretive Panels are located along the River Walk and there are opportunities to take a seat and relax along the route. See what’s in bloom in the wildflower meadow, check out what’s happening at the performance area or visit the outdoor gym if you’re feeling energetic. Find out more and download the map here.

Trim Castle
Trim Castle
Visit the largest, best-preserved and most impressive Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland on your trip to Trim. Tours run daily from 10am of the Castle and Keep and the Castle Grounds are free to visit. Find out more on our website here.

Trim Historic Trail
Trim Castle
Another great walk to explore on your visit to Trim is the Town Historic Trail. Visit 21 sites of historic interest like the Yellow Steeple, the Wellington Monument, The old Gaol and so much more. Find out more and download the map on our website here

Newtown Monuments
Newtown monuments Trim
Discover the deserted village of the Newtown Monuments. Situated at the other side of the Porchfields in Trim, this complex consists of a large medieval cathedral, two monasteries and small church which mostly date from the early 13th century. Find out more on our website here.
