Moynalty Steam Threshing Museum

Steam Threshing Museum & Parkland

The Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival came into existence in 1976. It takes place in the picturesque village of Moynalty in the North Meath hinterland. In the beginning the event was held at the local G.A.A grounds in Bellair. Then we moved to our now permanent premises on the banks of the Borora River.

Kells Historic Trail

In the ninth century, Kells was known as ‘Áinius Érenn’ or ‘The splendour of Ireland’.

The town will be forever associated with the illuminated gospels that originated here over 1200 years ago. Even then, Kells was a renowned centre of learning and enlightenment thanks to the influence of St Colmcille who founded a monastic settlement here in the sixth century.

Kells Courthouse Tourism and Cultural Hub

The Courthouse was built in 1801 on the commission of Lord Headfort. It was designed by the prominent Irish architect, Francis Johnston who also designed the General Post Office, Nelson’s Pillar, Townley Hall and the East Gate entrance to Slane Castle. When first built the downstairs was used as a courthouse and upstairs for entertaining local residents. In more recent years it was a local library.
